Wir sind in Argentinien, Frankreich, Deutschland und Italien geboren, haben in Basel studiert, leben derzeit in Frankreich, Italien, Deutschland und der Schweiz und sprechen miteinander die Sprache der Diplomatie: Französisch.

Denn dieser Styl ist die allerfreieste und ungebundenste Setz-Sing- und Spiel-Art, die man nur erdencken kan, da man bald auf diese bald auf jene Einfälle geräth, da allerhand sonst ungewöhnliche Gänge, versteckte Zierrathen, sinnreiche Drehungen und Verbrämungen hervorgebracht werden, ohne eigentliche Beobachtung des Tacts und Tons; bald hurtig bald zögernd; bald ein- bald vielstimmig; bald auch auf eine kurze Zeit nach dem Tact: ohne Klang-Maasse; doch nicht ohne Absicht zu gefallen, zu übereilen und in Verwunderung zu setzen.

Die Musiker von Stylus Phantasticus studierten bei Jordi Savall, Paolo Pandolfo, Jesper B. Christensen, Enrico Gatti, Chiara Banchini und Hopkinson Smith. Heute konzertieren sie als Solisten mit Ensembles wie Hesperion XXI, Le Concert des Nations, Ensemble Zefiro, Concerto Palatino, Collegium Vocale Gent, Concerto Vocale, Le Poème Harmonique, Il Giardino Armonico, Les Arts Florissants, Freiburger Barockorchester, Accademia Bizantina, mit Dirigenten wie Jordi Savall, René Jacobs, William Christie, Ottavio Dantone, Philippe Herreweghe u.a., sowie mit ihren eigenen Ensembles Café Zimmermann, La Chimera, Les Plaisirs du Parnasse und Rincontro.

Durch ihr Studium an der Schola Cantorum in Basel fanden sie sich zum Ensemble Stylus Phantasticus zusammen. Mit ihrem Spiel wollen sie die Phantasie der Hörer wecken, sie anrühren und überraschen mit Freiheit und Gebundenheit, Virtuosität und Einfachheit, Expressivität und Intimität.

Stylus Phantasticus ist Gast vieler internationaler Festivals, sowohl mit Instrumentalmusik des 17. Jahrhunderts, als auch unter Mitwirkung von Gesangssolisten wie u.a. María Cristina Kiehr, Roberta Invernizzi, Claire Lefilliâtre, Andreas Scholl, Victor Torres, Damien Guillon und Furio Zanasi

Seit 2002 entstanden mehrere CD-Einspielungen, die von der Kritik mit großer Begeisterung und vielen Auszeichnungen aufgenommen wurden (Diapason d'Or, Choc du Monde de la Musique, 10 de Répertoire, Classica, 5 Étoiles de Goldberg, 4 clés de Télérama ffff ): Zeichen im Himmel,  die erste CD-Einspielung von Musik Philipp Heinrich Erlebachs beim Label Alpha (Paris); Ciaccona – il mondo che gira, mit Kammermusik von Dietrich Buxtehude, beim gleichen Label, sowie bei Accent L´Harmonie des Nations  – Musik aus der Zeit des Kurfürsten Max Emanuel und Hortus Musicus - Der Musikgarten des Johann Adam Reincken.

Nés en Argentine, en Allemagne et en Italie, nous avons étudié à Bâle et vivons actuellement en France, en Italie et en Allemagne; nous parlons trois des quatre langues que parlait Georg Muffat et notre langue commune est celle de la diplomatie : le français.

Car ce style est la façon la plus libre, la plus indépendante de composer, de chanter et de jouer qui se puisse imaginer, puisque l'on tombe d'abord sur telle inspiration, puis sur telle autre, puisque toutes sortes de passages inhabituels, d'ornements secrets, de tournures et d'agréments ingénieux peuvent être créés, sans se soumettre vraiment au cadre strict de la mesure ou de la tonalité;  le discours peut être tour à tour précipité et hésitant, à une voix ou à plusieurs ; parfois aussi après la mesure pour un petit instant: sans modérer le ton; mais non sans perdre de vue le dessein de rester plaisant, de presser ou de susciter la surprise de l´auditeur.

Stylus Phantasticus - style libre, improvisateur dans la musique instrumentale baroque, et en même temps approche passionnée de l'interprétation de cette musique.

Les musiciens de Stylus Phantasticus ont étudié l'interprétation de la musique baroque à la Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, auprès de Jordi Savall, Paolo Pandolfo, Jesper B. Christensen, Hopkinson Smith, Enrico Gatti et Chiara Banchini. Aujourd'hui, ils se produisent comme solistes et jouent dans divers ensembles, tels Hesperion XXI, Le Concert des Nations, Concerto Vocale, les Arts Florissants, Accademia Bizantina, de même que dans leurs ensembles respectifs : Ensemble Café Zimmermann, La Chimera, les Plaisirs du Parnasse et Rincontro. Ils jouent sous la direction de Jordi Savall, René Jacobs, Gustav Leonhardt, Ton Koopman, Ottavio Dantone, William Christie et bien d'autres.

C'est en 1993 qu' ils se sont réunis pour créer l'ensemble Stylus Phantasticus. Dans leur interprétation, les membres de l'ensemble souhaitent éveiller l´imagination de l´auditeur, le toucher, le surprendre par liberté et contrainte, virtuosité et simplicité, expressivité et intimité qui caractérisent le stylus phantasticus.

Stylus Phantasticus, a participé à de nombreux festivals européens, soit pour des programmes de musique instrumentale du XVIIème siècle, soit pour des programmes de musique vocale, en compagnie de solistes tels que María Cristina Kiehr, Victor Torres, Claire Lefilliâtre, Andreas Scholl, Damien Guillon, Roberta Invernizzi et Furio Zanasi.

Depuis 2002, ils ont enregistré plusieurs albums, qui ont suscité l'enthousiasme de la critique et ont reçu de nombreuses distinctions (« Diapason d'Or », « Choc du Monde de la Musique », « 10 de Répertoire », Classica, « 5 Étoiles » de Goldberg, 4 ffff de Télérama) :

- l' album Zeichen im Himmel, premier enregistrement mondial de la musique de Philipp Heinrich Erlebach, est paru en 2002 sous le label Alpha (Paris) ;

- Ciaccona - il mondo che gira, consacré à la musique de chambre de Dietrich Buxtehude, est paru chez le même éditeur ;

- l' album L´Harmonie des Nations - Musique au temps de l'Electeur Max Emanuel est paru chez Accent. et

We were born in Argentina, Germany and France, studied in Basle and live at the moment in France, Italy and Germany. We speak three of Muffat’s four languages and, amongst ourselves, the language of diplomacy: French.

Hence this style is the most free and unconstrained manner of setting, singing and playing music one can possibly imagine, for one quickly turns from one idea to the next as all sorts of otherwise unusual passages, hidden embellishments, profound turns and ornaments are brought forth without actual observation of the beat and note, now with urgency, now with hesitation, now one part, now many parts; now also shortly after the beat: without strict measure; but not without the intention to please, to precipitate and astound.

Stylus Phantasticus – a free, improvisational style of Baroque instrumental music and at the same time a passionate approach to understanding this music. The musicians of Stylus Phantasticus were trained at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in the interpretation of Baroque music. They studied with Jordi Savall, Paolo Pandolfo, Jesper B. Christensen, Enrico Gatti, Chiara Banchini, John Holloway and Hopkinson Smith. Today they perform as soloists and with ensembles such as Hesperion XXI, Le Concert de Nations, Concerto Vocale, Les Arts Florissants, Accademia Bizantina di Ravenna, with conductors such as Jordi Savall, René Jacobs, Gustav Leonhardt, Ton Koopman, Ottavio Dantone, William Christie, and with their own ensembles Café Zimmermann, La Chimera, Les Plaisirs du Parnasse and Rincontro.

In 1993 they founded the ensemble Stylus Phantasticus. With their performance they wish to awaken the fantasy of the listeners, to move and surprise them with the freedom and constraint, the virtuosity and simplicity, the expressivity and intimacy of the stylus phantasticus.

Stylus Phantasticus has made guest appearances at many European festivals performing instrumental music of the 17^th century, also in collaboration with such renowned vocal soloists as María Cristina Kiehr, Victor Torres, Roberta Invernizzi, Claire Lefilliâtre, Damien Guillon, Andreas Scholl and Furio Zanasi.

Since 2002 they have made several CD recordings that have met with critical acclaim and won various awards (Diapason d'Or, Choc du Monde de la Musique, 10 de Répertoire, Classica, 5 Étoiles de Goldberg, 4 clés de Télérama ffff.) Zeichen im Himmel (Signs in the Heavens), the first CD recording of music by Philipp Heinrich Erlebach, with Stylus Phantasticus and Victor Torres, was released on the Alpha label (Paris) in 2002. Ciaccona – il mondo che gira, with chamber music by Dietrich Buxtehude, appeared on the same label in 2004. L'Harmonie des Nations, with music from the time of Elector Max Emanuel, was released on the Accent label, as well as Hortus Musicus - der Musikgarten des Johann Adam Reincken.
